Lord of Bharani Nakshatra, Yama teaches the balance of death, karma and dharma
In Vedic culture, Yam is not just the god of death but also a symbol of dharma, justice and the balance of the life-death cycle. He is referred to as "Dharmaraj" (King of Dharma) and "Kala" (Time), governing the south direction, the Pitraloka (realm of ancestors) and determining the fruits of one's actions. As the presiding deity of Bharani Nakshatra, Yam represents morality, justice and spiritual accountability in human life.

According to the Rigveda (10.14.1), Yam was the first human to discover the path of death. He was born to Sun God and Sanjna. After Sanjna's penance journey, Sun's tears gave birth to Yam, which is why he is called "Son of Death."
Yam's twin sister, Yamuna (the river goddess), plays a key role in many myths. It is said that on Yamuna's request, Yam declared that anyone who bathes in Yamuna with the love of a sibling would be free from the fear of death. This gave rise to the festival of Yam Dwitiya, celebrated as a symbol of sibling love.
In the Mahabharata (Vanaparva), Savitri, through her penance, pleased Yama and brought her husband Satyavan back from death. This story reflects Yama’s impartiality in justice and his commitment to dharma.
Individuals born under Bharani Nakshatra are deeply influenced by Yama:
“Bharani natives are seen as the embodiment of Yama, symbolizing justice, courage and karmic accountability.”
Yama is the god of justice, reminding us that every action has consequences. His character encourages humanity to embrace dharma, justice and personal responsibility. As the presiding deity of Bharani Nakshatra, Yama instills courage, moral strength and karmic awareness in those born under this Nakshatra. His blessings protect individuals from unethical behavior and inspire them to follow the path of righteousness.
