Learn how Deva Gan, Manushya Gan and Rakshasa Gan influence your nature and lifestyle
Many often ask me, "What is the connection between our birth nakshatra and our behavior or destiny?" If you too have wondered this, here is a sincere truth. The very moment you arrive on this earth, the planetary and nakshatra alignment at that time lays the foundation of your personality. Especially, your “Gan” - which is based on the classification of your birth nakshatra - determines your nature, thinking, preferences and even the directions of challenges and achievements in your life.
According to Vedic astrology, every individual belongs to one of three major Gans - Deva Gan, Manushya Gan and Rakshasa Gan. These Gans are not mere labels but markers of your inner nature and the flow of your life.
If you were born under Ashvini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana or Revati nakshatras, you belong to Deva Gan.
Verse
सुंदरों दान शीलश्च मतिमान् सरल: सदा।
अल्पभोगी महाप्राज्ञो तरो देवगणे भवेत्।।
Sundaro daan shilashcha matimaan saralah sadaa. Alpabhogi maha-praajnyo taro devagane bhavet.
Meaning: Individuals of Deva Gan are beautiful, kind, intelligent, simple-living role models devoted to service.
If you were born under Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada or Uttara Bhadrapada nakshatras, you belong to Manushya Gan.
Verse
मानी धनी विशालाक्षो लक्ष्यवेधी धनुर्धर:।
गौर: पोरजन ग्राही जायते मानवे गणे।।
Mani dhani vishalaksho lakshyavedhi dhanurdharah. Gaurah porajana graahi jayate manave gane.
Meaning: Such individuals are self-respecting, wealthy, decisive, vigilant and socially influential.
If you were born under Magha, Chitra, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha or Jyeshtha (also including Ashlesha, Vishakha, Krittika, Mula) nakshatras, you belong to Rakshasa Gan.
Verse
उन्मादी भीषणाकार: सर्वदा कलहप्रिय:।
पुरुषों दुस्सहं बूते प्रमे ही राक्षसे गण।।
Unmaadi bhishanakaarah sarvadaa kalahapriyah. Purushon dussaham boote prame hi rakshase gan.
Meaning: Individuals of Rakshasa Gan are fierce, controversy-loving, sharp and have a mindset challenging the world.
Every nakshatra belongs to a Gan. Check your moon’s nakshatra in your birth chart and see which Gan it belongs to. For example: Swati nakshatra belongs to Deva Gan; Magha to Rakshasa Gan; Rohini to Manushya Gan.
In astrology, Gan Dosh occurs when the prospective bride and groom’s nakshatras belong to opposite Gans, potentially causing clashes in temperament or outlook. Understanding Gan Dosh and taking appropriate remedies is considered beneficial for family harmony. However, genuine compatibility arises more from emotional understanding than just chart matching.
Your birth Gan is the primary color of your nature but life experiences and inner growth balance you. The compassion of Deva Gan, balanced thought of Manushya Gan and the sharpness of Rakshasa Gan - all have a role in everyone, just in varying proportions. Every nakshatra, every Gan, tells a new possibility and direction - understand your chart, embrace your nature and shape your life accordingly. This is the essence of Nakshatra Gan and the art of living well.
