Ashadha Amavasya is considered the most auspicious day for rituals that provide peace to ancestors. On this day the gates of the ancestral realm are believed to open. The ancestors look towards their descendants hoping for water, food and remembrance. Offerings made with faith are believed to remove ancestral afflictions, illness, financial hardship and obstacles related to progeny.
In Vedic astrology the Sun and Moon align in the same sign on Amavasya creating a powerful flow of spiritual energy on Earth. Bathing in sacred rivers offering water to the Sun and performing tarpan with sesame barley and kush grass bring profound spiritual merit.
Awaken in Brahma Muhurta and bathe in a sacred river lake or water mixed with Ganga water.
Offer water to the Sun while chanting Om Suryaya Namah.

In Alakapuri the king Kubera had a gardener who delayed bringing flowers for worship because he spent time in pleasure with his wife. Angered Kubera cursed him to be born on Earth as a leper and to live in separation from his wife.
Upon birth on Earth the gardener performed ritual bath charity and ancestral offerings on Ashadha Amavasya with full devotion. His sins dissolved and he attained liberation.
This story teaches that ritual bath charity and tarpan on Ashadha Amavasya can destroy even the most difficult karmic burdens and bring peace to ancestors.
