Gopadma Vrat is a sacred observance that honors family affection cow worship and gratitude. Celebrated especially in the Madhva community it symbolizes devotion purity and harmony within family life. This seven day ritual continues for five consecutive years and inspires balance humility and spiritual growth.
The vrat begins on 6 July 2025 Sunday and concludes on 2 November 2025 Sunday.
It is observed during Chaturmas beginning from Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi and ending on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi.
The ritual is performed continuously for seven days each year for five years.
Begin the day with a sacred bath and wear clean clothes.
Create a rangoli in a cowshed or worship space depicting a cow calf lotus motifs and auspicious symbols.
Draw six lotus designs around the cow symbolizing the presence of thirty three crore deities.
Offer kumkum rice flowers fruits sweets and naivedya.
Perform thirty three circumambulations and then six circumambulations for the six lotuses.
Perform aarti and offer prayers to the cow.
Repeat the same procedure for all seven days and make up for any missed day.
At the completion of the vrat perform dana.
In the first year donate payasam thirty three coins tulsi sandalwood and betel leaf.
In the following years offer sweets like laddu athirasa ellai appam or obbattu.
This donation is offered to the brother or to an eligible person in his absence.
The vrat honors cows and reinforces the cultural bond with nature.
Married women observe it for the well being long life and prosperity of their brothers.
It strengthens family unity and encourages love cooperation and harmony.
