All secrets of Pitru Paksha Tarpan: home, pilgrimage, astrology, regional customs, family blessings
Pitru Paksha is one of the most sacred, sensitive and spiritually rich periods in the Hindu calendar - a time of remembering, honoring and spiritually serving ancestors. In 2025, Pitru Paksha will be observed from 7 September to 21 September. This period is marked by Shraddha, Tarpan, Pind Daan and several layered rituals that connect families to their lineage. Of these, ‘Tarpan’ is vital, standing as a shining bridge between soul and heritage.
“Tarpan” derives from the Sanskrit root ‘trup’, meaning “to satisfy”. Tarpan is not just water poured with hands but a union of mind, voice, respect and heartfelt memory. Hindu scriptures, including Garuda Purana, Manusmriti, Brahma Purana, Krodhindra Tantra and Mahabharata, explain Shraddha and Tarpan in great detail.
