In the Treta Yuga, King Bali had conquered the three worlds. The gods pleaded with Sage Atri. Lord Vishnu appeared as a dwarf Brahmin named Vamana. At Bali’s Ashvamedha Yagna he asked for only three steps of land. Bali gladly agreed.
Vamana placed his first step on earth and his second in the heavens. For the third step Bali humbly offered his own head. In this way arrogance was destroyed and dharma restored. Bali was granted the annual boon of visitation. Kerala celebrates this as Onam and other regions observe it as Bali Pratipada.
Fasting on Dwadashi Tithi enhances intelligence. Shravana Nakshatra endows inner tranquility. Performing rituals in Abhijit Muhurat brings balance and positive energy.
