In Hindu tradition, Ekadashi fasting is considered one of the most sacred observances. It is believed to purify the soul, free the devotee from material desires and lead toward liberation. According to scriptures, Ekadashi originated from the divine body of Lord Vishnu. Observing this vrat destroys sins, brings peace and ensures salvation after death. In September 2025, two special Ekadashis will be observed - Parivartini Ekadashi and Indira Ekadashi.
Parivartini Ekadashi, also known as Jaljhilani Ekadashi, will be observed on 3 September 2025, Wednesday. This vrat falls during the holy period of Chaturmas when Lord Vishnu is believed to be in cosmic sleep. On this day, it is believed that Lord Vishnu changes sides in his resting posture, hence the name Parivartini.

Worshipping Lord Vishnu and offering charity on this day is said to bring prosperity, relief from financial problems and blessings of abundance.
Indira Ekadashi will be observed on 17 September 2025, Wednesday, during Pitru Paksha, the period dedicated to ancestors. This vrat is considered highly auspicious for granting liberation to forefathers.

Observing Indira Ekadashi is said to free ancestors from Yamaloka and grant them a place in Vishnuloka (Vaikuntha). It ensures the liberation of up to seven generations.
