Ashadha Amavasya is a sacred day for ancestor peace, spiritual cleansing and family prosperity.
Ashadha Amavasya is considered one of the holiest and most auspicious dates in the Hindu calendar. This day is dedicated to the peace of ancestors, pitr tarpan, donation and spiritual purification. Ashadha Amavasya holds immense importance not only from a religious perspective but also in terms of astrology and family welfare. Let us explore when Ashadha Amavasya falls in 2025, the auspicious time for bathing, donation and pitr tarpan and the dos and don’ts for the day.
Ashadha Amavasya is a day specifically dedicated to performing pitr tarpan, pind daan and donating to gain the peace of ancestors' souls. It is believed that on this day, the gates of Pitr Lok open and ancestors come down to Earth, expecting tarpan, water offerings and remembrance from their descendants. The pitr tarpan and donations done on this day are said to please the ancestors, who then bless their descendants, removing pitr dosha, diseases, financial difficulties and obstacles related to progeny.
From a Vedic astrological perspective, on Amavasya, the Sun and Moon are positioned in the same zodiac sign, which increases the flow of spiritual energy on Earth. Bathing in holy rivers, offering water to the Sun and performing pitr tarpan with sesame, kush and water on this day are highly auspicious.
Once, in the kingdom of Alkapuri, King Kubera was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. His gardener, who was supposed to bring flowers for Lord Shiva’s worship, got delayed one day as he was caught up in merry-making with his wife. Enraged, King Kubera cursed him to be born as a leper on Earth and to suffer the pain of separation from his wife.
The gardener, having descended to Earth, performed the ritual bath, donation and pitr tarpan on Ashadha Amavasya. As a result, his sins were washed away and he attained liberation (moksha). This story teaches us that performing bath, donation and pitr tarpan on Ashadha Amavasya can absolve sins and bring peace to the ancestors' souls.
Ashadha Amavasya is not just a date but a festival of connecting with our ancestors, expressing gratitude, spiritual purification and family well-being. The worship, tarpan and donation done on this day not only appease the ancestors but also open the path for happiness, peace and prosperity in the lives of descendants. This day reminds us of our roots, tradition and spiritual responsibilities- to honor our ancestors by fulfilling our duties for their peace.
Ashadha Amavasya 2025, to be celebrated on June 25, holds significant importance for morning rituals such as bathing, offering water to the Sun, pitr tarpan and donations. This day is highly auspicious for the peace of ancestors' souls, removal of pitr dosha and spiritual upliftment. The acts performed with devotion, discipline and proper rituals will undoubtedly bring prosperity, blessings from ancestors and spiritual growth. Let us embrace this sacred day with reverence and gratitude, ensuring that our actions and prayers bring peace and happiness to our lives and our ancestors' souls.
