Discover the mysterious reason why the sound of the sea does not reach the Jagannath Temple in Puri
The Jagannath Temple in Puri is famous not only for its grandeur but also for its unique mysteries. One such mystery is that while the temple is located near the sea, the sound of the waves is mysteriously not heard within the temple premises. However, just a few steps away from the temple, the sound of the ocean is clearly audible. The answer to this mystery lies in the intervention of Lord Hanuman, whose divine wisdom and understanding of the laws of nature provide an exceptional example of Vedic faith, nature’s balance and divine harmony.
According to ancient legends, once Lord Jagannath, who resided near the ocean, found it difficult to rest peacefully due to the continuous roaring of the sea waves. The sound of the ocean disturbed his sleep. To resolve this, Lord Jagannath instructed his ardent devotee, Lord Hanuman, to find a solution.
Lord Hanuman first approached the sea god, requesting, "O Ocean! Please calm your waves so that my Lord can rest peacefully."
The Ocean replied, "My very nature is motion; I cannot remain still. However, if the wind blows in the opposite direction, my sound will not reach the temple."
Lord Hanuman then called upon his father, the Wind God and requested, "O Wind God, please create a wind barrier around the temple to stop the sea’s sound from entering." The Wind God replied, "I cannot change direction myself but you can create a wind barrier with your speed."
Thus, Hanuman Ji swiftly circled the temple so rapidly that a powerful wind circle was formed, which blocked the sound waves of the sea from reaching the temple. As a result, Lord Jagannath was able to rest peacefully.
This story teaches that in Vedic principles, the relationship between nature and deities is inseparable. Lord Hanuman did not confront the sea, nor did he pressurize the Wind God. Instead, he utilized the laws of nature to find a solution, which remains a mystery even in modern science.
The story of Lord Hanuman’s intervention during the Jagannath Rath Yatra has significant astrological relevance.
Even today, when you enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Jagannath Temple, the sound of the sea disappears completely. While scientists may consider it a marvel of acoustics, for the devotees, it is proof of Lord Hanuman’s devotion and wisdom.
This story teaches every devotee that to receive God’s grace, one needs to combine devotion with wisdom. Lord Hanuman not only used his strength but also his intellect to solve the problem. Today, this mystery reminds us that nature and the divine are always in harmony-we just need to understand their signs.
The mystery of the Jagannath Temple is not merely a miracle but it reflects the depth of the Vedic Sanatan tradition. Every devotee who visits the temple experiences the truth of "When the mind is pure, the Ganga flows in the pitcher"-through devotion and faith, the impossible becomes possible.
