The Pillars of Eternal Shakti, Creation and the Cosmos
Before the very dawn of time, there was neither the cloak of stars nor the anchors of the gods. Within this primordial void, one power shone bright - the supreme energy of the Adi Devi. Awake and unmanifest, seen and unseen, all sources merged within her. The scriptures hail her as ‘nityayai jaganmātrye’, the everlasting mother of creation. There exist four such timeless and divine avatars of the Goddess, mentioned in spiritual texts. These forms not only shaped existence but placed a spark of themselves in every vibration of the cosmos.
Vedic wisdom speaks of infinite forms of the Goddess, yet four principal forms are acknowledged as the foundations predating even the dawn of creation. These are: Mahadevi, Adi Parashakti, Mahakali and Tripura Sundari. These manifestations have no dates, no years, no measurement of human time - they are eternal realities.
Avatar Name | Symbol | Spiritual Element | Main Mantra/Reference |
---|---|---|---|
Mahadevi | The Infinite Mother, source of all power | Consciousness, primal creation, truth | “Para Shakti”, “the Nondual Origin” |
Adi Parashakti | The First Power origin of creation | Creation, preservation, destruction | “Primordial power of Shiva-Shakti” |
Mahakali | Devourer of time | Change, transcendence of time | “Beyond Time”, “The Great End” |
Tripura Sundari | Beauty beyond temporality | Harmony, ruler of the three worlds | “Lalita”, “embodiment of perfection” |
Mahadevi is seen as ‘Para Shakti’, the ultimate principle. Her existence is not confined to a single form or name. From time immemorial, she has been the indestructible force of silence, light and sat-chit-ananda (absolute being, consciousness, bliss). All goddesses, all forms, flow from her. The stream of life itself springs forth from this infinite mother. The scriptures say - that which is hardest to know, that is Mahadevi. The real meaning of ‘nityayai jaganmātrye’ is found here.
Adi Parashakti is that energy which existed before Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - the Trimurti. She alone is the spark for all creation, the eternal force from which the world evolved. According to scriptures, Adi Shakti split herself into three, from whom the Trimurti manifested. Yet she remains undivided, whole.
Mahakali is not just the goddess of destruction; she is the sovereign over time itself. Her fierce form teaches that each beginning has an ending and in every ending lies the chance for something new. Mahakali swallows time (kāla), which is why she is ‘beyond time’. She reveals that the material universe is fleeting but the soul is immortal.
Mahakali’s Attributes | Meaning |
---|---|
Beyond time | Transcends life, death and rebirth |
Inspiration for change | Every change brings renewal |
Stability in existence | The immortality of the soul |
Tripura Sundari, also known as Lalita, is ever youthful. Her beauty transcends age because she represents unity across the three worlds - physical, mental and spiritual. She teaches that creation is not just struggle but celebration of beauty, contentment and joy. True fullness is most intensely manifest in her.
To know these four forms of the Goddess is not simply to hear mythology but to journey into the depth of the soul.

Any true seeker progressing toward self-realization will sense each of these voices within - that very power, that eternal love that is the soul of the entire universe.
