Explore how friendships and rivalries among planets influence your life's trajectory and successes
Vedic astrology is not just about the positions of planets but deeply rooted in the subtleties of the relationships they share. From years of study and Kundali analysis, I have learned that planets never act alone-their effects are interpreted in light of how they interact with nearby and aspecting planets. When one wonders, “Why do I feel my efforts go unrewarded?” or “Why does favorable planetary yoga not bring happiness?”-often the answer lies hidden in the nature of planetary relationships.
The effect of a Kundali is determined not only by a single planet or house but by the combined relationships among several planets. A planet may be auspicious in a house but if it is associated with or aspected by friendly or hostile planets, its beneficence or maleficence can increase or diminish. This is the essence of “Grah Sambandh” or planetary relationship.
Graha (Planet) | Mitra (Friend) Planets | Sam (Neutral) Planets | Shatru (Enemy) Planets |
---|---|---|---|
Surya (Sun) | Chandra (Moon), Mangal (Mars), Brihaspati (Jupiter) | Budha (Mercury) | Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu, Ketu |
Chandra (Moon) | Surya, Budha | Shani, Shukra, Brihaspati, Mangal | Rahu, Ketu |
Mangal (Mars) | Surya, Chandra, Brihaspati, Ketu | Shukra, Shani | Budha, Rahu |
Budha (Mercury) | Surya, Shukra | Mangal, Brihaspati, Shani, Rahu, Ketu | Chandra |
Brihaspati (Jupiter) | Surya, Chandra, Mangal | Shani, Rahu, Ketu | Budha, Shukra |
Shukra (Venus) | Budha, Shani, Rahu, Ketu | Brihaspati, Mangal | Surya, Chandra |
Shani (Saturn) | Budha, Shukra, Rahu | Brihaspati | Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Ketu |
Rahu | Shukra, Shani | Brihaspati, Budha | Surya, Mangal, Chandra, Ketu |
Ketu | Mangal, Shukra | Brihaspati, Budha | Shani, Rahu, Surya, Chandra |
Natural Relationship | Temporary Relationship | Panchadha Result |
---|---|---|
Mitra | Mitra | Param Mitra |
Mitra | Neutral | Mitra |
Shatru | Tatstha | Shatru |
Neutral | Shatru | Shatru |
Shatru | Ati Shatru | --- |
Consider if Budha (Mercury) and Shukra (Venus) are in the same house in your chart:
However, if Mangal (Mars) and Shani (Saturn) are close to each other and have natural as well as temporary enmity, the Panchadha Maitri becomes “Ati Shatru,” making the effects of these planets troubled and challenging.
Planetary friendship or enmity influences every aspect of life - wealth, career, family harmony, marital peace, health and more. It is common to see strong yogas in a horoscope but the lack of planetary friendship overshadowing the yoga may result in lack of results. From my experience, those who understand the depth of planetary relationships and apply small remedial measures often achieve better outcomes.
Type of Relationship | How It Forms | What It Indicates |
---|---|---|
Natural Friendship | By element, sign ownership, trine houses | Inherent friendship or enmity |
Temporary Friendship | Relative position in houses | Temporary friendship or enmity |
Panchadha Maitri | Combined evaluation of above | Final mixed effect in horoscope outcomes |
