The Secret of Cosmic Balance and Hidden Power Within the Sun

One of the most wondrous and profound statements associated with Maa Kushmanda is that she dwells within the Sun itself. At first this may seem symbolic, as if it refers only to her brightness or divine radiance. But when this statement is understood more deeply, it reveals an extraordinary cosmic secret. The question naturally arises that when countless realms and subtle planes existed or could exist, why did she choose the Sun as her dwelling. This was not merely a choice of location. It was a divine decision connected with the very balance of creation.
In the earliest stage of creation, light had begun to expand but it had not yet become fully stable. Energy had awakened, direction had begun to emerge, motion had already arisen but equilibrium was still incomplete. At that time the Sun was only a brilliant center of force. It held immense radiance, immense heat and immense power, yet that power had not settled into perfect rhythm. If it had remained unbalanced, the very light that was meant to become the support of life could also have turned into danger for creation. Here the story of Maa Kushmanda enters a deeply subtle dimension.
The answer lies in the very structure of creation. Whatever stands at the center becomes the most influential. The Sun was not merely a source of visible light. It was the central energy point from which the possibility of life could spread in every direction. If the center is disturbed, the wider field will also remain unstable. If the center becomes balanced, the wider system can move into harmony. Maa Kushmanda recognized exactly this.
She did not look upon the Sun only as a sphere of fire. She saw it as the heartbeat of cosmic order. By dwelling there, she was not merely occupying one place. She was establishing herself at the point from which the entire flow of energy could be guided. That is why her choice of the Sun was not drawn by outer brilliance. It was an intensely subtle energetic decision.
When creation first began to unfold, the Sun held immense brilliance but not yet complete harmony. It was vast in power, yet not fully rhythmic. Its heat could become the basis of life but it also carried the possibility of harm if left unbalanced. The gods sensed this. They understood that if this force continued in its raw state, the stability needed for creation would remain fragile.
They perceived the imbalance, yet none among them had the courage to approach the heart of that fire. Even nearing it was unbearable, let alone entering into it. There was not only heat there. There was uncontained force. It was at this very point that Maa Kushmanda intervened. But her intervention was not external. She issued no command, waged no battle and displayed no outward act of conquest. She chose to restore the Sun from within.
The form of Maa Kushmanda is indeed connected with creation but her wisdom is not limited to beginnings. She also understands the energy through which creation can become enduring. While others saw only the Sun’s brilliance, she perceived its inner irregularity. She knew that if this energy remained without direction, its expansion would threaten the very creation it was meant to nourish.
This is why her response did not delay. She understood that some powers cannot be corrected from outside. They must be held from within. The Sun was such a power. It was not to be stopped. It was not to be diminished. It was to be harmonized. That subtle difference reveals Maa Kushmanda not merely as a great force but as the sovereign intelligence of cosmic balance.
The traditions say that Maa Kushmanda entered directly into the Sun. This is no ordinary event. The heat and energy of the Sun were so intense that to reach it was already impossible for most divine beings. But for Maa Kushmanda this was no obstacle, because she herself was the primordial consciousness behind that radiance. The force that was being seen outwardly in the Sun was already known inwardly to her.
Her entry into the Sun was truly a kind of descent into the center of energy. She established herself where light and heat arise in their original movement. The moment she took her place there, the nature of the Sun began to change. The energy that had once only expanded began to move in rhythm. The heat that had once only burned began to gain restraint. The light that had once only blazed began to turn life giving.
As soon as Maa Kushmanda established her presence there, subtle changes began. These changes were not abrupt. They unfolded gradually. The brilliance remained but agitation lessened. The heat remained but nourishment appeared within it. Movement remained but regularity entered it. This new rhythm is what later gave stability to the unfolding universe.
The meaning of this transformation was not merely celestial. It affected the entire cosmic order. Energy now spread in a more harmonized way through all directions. The correct relationship between heat and light that could sustain life became possible. For this reason the Sun later came to be seen not only as a source of radiance but also as one of the great supports of life.
This is perhaps the deepest and most fascinating layer of the story. It is said that within the Sun there is not only fire, light and heat. There is also a subtle field of consciousness in which the presence of Maa Kushmanda remains continually active. This is not an ordinary realm. It is a fine and hidden domain from which the wider balance of energy is sustained.
This field cannot be reached through physical movement. It is a domain of consciousness. One can approach it only if one can go beyond outer flame and feel the inner intelligence of energy itself. For this reason the gods understood the greatness of the Sun but not the full depth of the consciousness dwelling within it. They honored the Sun as divine but the inner secret of Maa Kushmanda’s presence remained beyond ordinary comprehension.
The gods accepted the radiance of the Sun and recognized its divine dignity, yet they could not entirely understand the subtle force working within it. They certainly sensed it. They knew that the Sun was not mere fire. They felt that within it there was a presence guiding energy toward wisdom. But intuition and realization are not the same. They reached the surface of the truth, not its innermost heart.
The asuras also tried many times to reach that hidden force. For them, the Sun represented a form of power which, if gained, might grant tremendous influence. Yet they failed, because entry into the Sun was not merely arrival at a place. It was entrance into a living field of consciousness. Such a field cannot be reached through aggression. It opens only through inner fitness. That is why the secret remained inaccessible to them.
Lord Shiva knew this secret. He did not look upon the Sun merely as a luminous body. He understood that within it dwelt a governing power intimately connected with the balance of creation. That is why his regard for the Sun was never ordinary. He recognized the silent consciousness within its brilliance.
Lord Vishnu too accepted solar energy as one of the foundations of cosmic balance. He understood that preservation is not sustained only by external guardianship. It also depends upon a stable central force. The presence of Maa Kushmanda within the Sun made exactly this possible. Vishnu accepted that truth and understood that preservation cannot become complete unless the central energy remains in harmony.
This story should not be seen merely as a divine marvel or as mythic wonder. It also carries a profound spiritual meaning. Here the Sun represents not only the outer center of the cosmos but also the inner center of the human being. Just as the Sun spreads light in all directions, within every human being there is also a center from which thought, feeling, vitality and purpose flow.
If that center becomes disturbed, the directions of life also become disturbed. If that center becomes stable, the outer life begins to fall into order. The dwelling of Maa Kushmanda within the Sun teaches that true power must establish itself at the center. The force that can hold the center in balance can also hold the greater system in order.
Every person has an inner Sun. Sometimes it appears as the mind, sometimes as life force, sometimes as confidence, sometimes as purpose and sometimes as the silent light of inner being. If this center is unbalanced, outer achievements cannot produce lasting peace. If this center becomes steady, life itself begins to move more harmoniously. The story of Maa Kushmanda reminds us that before trying to control the outer world, one must first recognize the inner center.
It also teaches that such a center cannot be balanced by force. One must descend into it, just as Maa Kushmanda entered the Sun. This is the inner spiritual teaching hidden in the story. Until a person enters the center within, energy will remain scattered. Once one becomes established there, rhythm, light and stability begin to arise naturally.
In the end, it becomes clear that Maa Kushmanda chose the Sun as her dwelling because it was the central point of cosmic energy. By establishing herself there, she did not merely reside in one place. She seated herself at the axis from which the entire universe could receive its proper direction. For her, the Sun was not merely the house of light. It was the workshop of balance, the axis of life, the heart of creation.
Maa Kushmanda teaches that true power is the power that establishes itself where it can create the greatest harmony. This is the deepest essence of the story. Once the center becomes balanced, the wider field also begins to come into order.
Why did Maa Kushmanda choose the Sun as her dwelling
Because the Sun was the central energy point of creation and without balancing it the stable development of existence would not be possible.
Was the Sun originally unbalanced
According to the story, its heat and radiance were immense but they lacked stable rhythm and harmony.
What did Maa Kushmanda do after entering the Sun
She established her consciousness there and gave its energy rhythm, measure and life sustaining balance.
Is a subtle realm within the Sun also suggested in the story
Yes. Some traditions indicate that a subtle field of consciousness linked with Maa Kushmanda remains active there.
