In September 2025 devotees will observe two important Pradosh Vrats for Lord Shiva. The first fast falls on Friday, 5 September. The second on Friday, 19 September.
The first Pradosh Vrat begins at 04:08 AM on 5 September and ends at 03:12 AM on 6 September. The puja muhurat is from 06:38 PM to 08:55 PM.
According to the Puranas Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva roam earth during Pradosh. One legend tells that Brahma ignored Ekadashi and later repented. Shiva and Parvati then revealed the ritual of Pradosh Vrat.
The second fast begins at 11:24 PM on 18 September and ends at 11:36 PM on 19 September. The muhurat is from 06:21 PM to 08:43 PM.
A legend says a Chandala king performed Pradosh worship. He gained brahminical merit and forgot his warrior duties. Shiva appeared and reminded him that Pradosh Vrat brings great blessings to the world.
Clean the worship space and install the Shiva Lingam. Perform Panchamrita Abhishek.
Perform havan and offer Bilva leaves. Distribute fruit kheer and barley laddus as prasad.
