Learn this year’s hours and simple remedies to avoid Mithya Dosha
Ganesh Chaturthi welcomes Lord Ganesha, the guide who removes obstacles and steadies the mind. Devotees decorate the altar, sing aarti and share prasad with love. Along with the joy comes one careful observance. It is believed that moon sighting on this day may invite Mithya Dosha, the stain of false blame.
The following hours fall within the Chaturthi Tithi. Avoid looking at the moon during these periods.

A narrative says the moon once scoffed at Ganesha. Ganesha then declared that anyone who looked at the moon on Chaturthi would suffer false accusation. That state is known as Mithya Dosha.
Sri Krishna once faced a false charge of stealing the Syamantaka jewel. Later Sage Narada explained that an unmindful moon sighting on Chaturthi had triggered the blemish. Krishna observed the fast, performed worship and the stain was lifted. Since then devotees avoid moon sighting on this day.
