Lessons of balance, sacrifice and spiritual growth through the sacred bond of Peepal and Pushya
In Indian culture, trees hold a special place and among them, the Peepal tree is considered the holiest and most mysterious. Similarly, Pushya Nakshatra is regarded as auspicious, nourishing and full of spiritual energy. When the connection between these two is explored, it becomes not just an astrological concept but also a profound life philosophy and a source of inspiration.
Pushya Nakshatra is associated with nourishment, protection and service. Similarly, the Peepal tree gives shade, oxygen and peace to all without discrimination. However, a fascinating fact is that no new plants grow in the dense shade of the Peepal tree. This natural mystery reveals a deep life philosophy.
Once upon a time, a sage lived in the forest with his disciples. The sage noticed that many tired travelers, animals and seekers rested under the Peepal tree’s shade. However, he also observed that no new plant grew beneath the Peepal tree.
One day, a disciple asked out of curiosity, “Guru, the Peepal tree provides shade, peace and life but why does no new plant grow beneath it?”
The sage smiled and replied, “Son, the Peepal tree’s nature is sacrifice and service. It gives its shade, oxygen and peace to everyone but asks for nothing in return. No new plant grows beneath it because it has given everything - this is the peak of selflessness.”
The sage then illustrated with the example of Pushya Nakshatra, “Pushya Nakshatra, too, offers protection, peace and nourishment in life but it is not considered very auspicious for marriage or the birth of children. The reason is that this Nakshatra symbolizes sacrifice, service and spiritual advancement, not material desires.”
