When Earth faced crisis, it was Brihaspati’s wisdom and service that revived life with immortal energy
In Hindu Puranas and Vedic texts, Earth Mother is regarded as a symbol of life, nourishment and endurance, while Brihaspati is known as the Guru of the Gods and the nectar of knowledge. These two figures share a remarkable tale that not only demonstrates the nourishing and compassionate power of Pushya Nakshatra but also teaches that when crises arise in the world, it is through knowledge, compassion and cooperation that life regains its energy and balance.
Once upon a time, the world was overrun with violence, sin and suffering and Earth Mother, along with all living creatures, grew weary. Burdened by injustice and immorality, Earth Mother withdrew her power and transformed herself into a stone. As a result, life on Earth faced immense difficulty- rivers began to dry, crops were destroyed and creatures suffered from hunger and thirst.
When the gods observed the calamity on Earth, they became extremely worried. All the gods approached Lord Vishnu and prayed, "O Narayana! Earth Mother has turned into a stone, the cycle of life has stopped, please guide us with a solution." Lord Vishnu advised the gods to remain patient and seek the help of the sages. He said that only through knowledge, penance and compassion could Earth Mother be awakened again.
The sages gathered and devised a unique plan. They requested Brihaspati, the symbol of knowledge and Dharma, to assume the form of a calf. Brihaspati, in the form of a calf, went to Earth Mother. The other gods and sages performed a yajna and praised Earth Mother.
Brihaspati, in the form of a calf, milked Earth Mother- this milk was not just a symbol of physical nourishment but also of knowledge, immortality and life energy. As soon as Brihaspati obtained the milk, Earth Mother was revived, greenery returned to the Earth, rivers started flowing and energy was restored to life.
When difficulties or droughts arise in life, it is not through external means alone but through knowledge, compassion and cooperation that solutions emerge. Within every person lies an 'Earth Mother' and a 'Brihaspati'- one who endures and the other who can rejuvenate life through knowledge and service. This tale teaches us that whenever despair clouds life, it is through patience, correct guidance and service that energy and happiness can be restored.
The tale of Earth Mother, Brihaspati and the Nectar of Immortality is not only mythological but also highly relevant to today’s life. This story, like Pushya Nakshatra, teaches us that the greatest wealth in life is the nectar of nourishment, compassion and knowledge. If you found this story inspiring, share it with your friends and family- for the more knowledge and compassion we share, the more beautiful and prosperous life becomes.
