This tale of Krishna’s birth makes Pushya Nakshatra a symbol of fortune and divine beginnings

Pushya Nakshatra is regarded as one of the most auspicious and spiritually powerful constellations in Indian tradition. Its association with the birth of Lord Krishna makes it even more sacred. This story carries deep astrological meaning and universal lessons about faith, struggle and ultimate victory.
In the Dwapara Yuga, Kamsa imprisoned his father Ugrasena and became the ruler of Mathura. Although he dearly loved his sister Devaki, his fear grew when a divine prophecy declared that her eighth child would be the cause of his death. Terrified, he imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva and killed every child born to them.
On the night of Krishna Paksha Ashtami in the month of Bhadrapada, during the deepest darkness, Devaki gave birth to Lord Krishna. The Moon was in Rohini Nakshatra, filling the atmosphere with divine energy. The prison lit up, shackles broke, and guards fell into a deep sleep.
Lord Vishnu instructed Vasudeva to carry the newborn Krishna to Gokul and bring back the daughter born to Yashoda. In the stormy night, Vasudeva placed Krishna in a basket and crossed the swelling Yamuna River. As soon as Krishna’s tiny feet touched the water, the river calmed. Vasudeva safely reached Gokul, left Krishna with Yashoda and returned with the infant girl.
When Kamsa tried to kill the newborn girl, she slipped from his hands, rose into the sky and appeared as Yogamaya. She warned him, “The one destined to end your tyranny has already been born in Vrindavan.”
Raised lovingly by Nanda and Yashoda, Krishna grew up in Gokul while Kamsa constantly attempted to kill him. Every attempt failed. Eventually Krishna reached Mathura, defeated Kamsa and restored Ugrasena to the throne.
